About This Novel
There are a total of 25 short stories and two novellas collected in this collection. Almost all of these works have a yellowish background, like old photos, taking you back to the old days in the countryside. The novella "Tiantian Shang Shang" was reprinted in the 2010 issue 11 of "Selected Novels". The novel describes the hard life of a private elementary school teacher, with a bottom-level narrative of blood and tears, and the light of humanity shines in the ordinary. The short story "Winter Moon" tells the story of rural girl Cai Qin taking a bath before getting married. Although she can only use a basin to bathe next to a kerosene lamp, it is so sacred as a baptism; "White Legs" tells the story of Zhang Guangming's pursuit of Ge Ju in his student days, no matter how he pursues Ge Ju, it is all in vain. He was scheming, but twenty years later, when he returned to his hometown as a successful man, he easily fulfilled his adolescent dream; "Killing Horses" tells the story of Lao Liang, a contractor cadre who wanted to eat horse meat and forced his grandfather, who was a landlord, to kill his beloved horse...
