Yuan Haowen was a famous poet and literary theory critic in the Jin Dynasty. He had unique insights into poetry, advocated nature and purity, opposed stacking and carving, and advocated the restoration of the fine tradition of poetry since Jian'an. His "Thirty Poems" is a famous group of poems following Du Fu that uses the form of quatrains to elucidate the theory of poetry more systematically. It comments on many famous writers and schools from the Han and Wei dynasties to the Song Dynasty, indicating the author's literary views and having an important influence on later generations.
