The book is divided into ten units. Each unit begins with a short story derived from unearthed bamboo slips and silk documents, which restores the specific scenes of life in the Han Dynasty. It is followed by a short popular science text that provides a more detailed and vivid explanation of the social life and material culture of the Han Dynasty. The author imitates Mr. Shi Jingqian's attitude towards history and Mr. Yasushi Inoue's novel techniques, and builds a bridge between the academic and the popular through the use of pictures and texts, so that readers can not only appreciate the wonderful stories hidden in the bamboo slips, but also gain knowledge about the basic necessities, food, housing and transportation of the Han Dynasty society.
