About This Novel

"Xihe" is a novel written by Xing Xiaodong. It is a legendary epic of freedom and love. The novel blends fantasy with history, and the false and true are mostly borrowed from the Tang Dynasty. The story begins with the legend of Xihe and ends with the legend of Xihe. It runs through before and after the An-Shi Rebellion, involving rivers and lakes, and going up to temples. It has a tight structure, ups and downs, and has a strong legendary color. The novel can be roughly divided into six parts: Golden Crow destroys the religion, Shuang Yue plays the flute, Shui Yue illusion, Mawei mutiny, Suiyang White Bones, and Xihe New Kingdom. The work takes the love story of the protagonists Mu Hong and Dou Huanniang as the main line, and creates all kinds of exaggerated typical characters in the great tragedy of the insensitivity of the entire society. The work praises the protagonist's pursuit of individual liberation, but does not whitewash the heavy social reality or exaggerate the unproven ideal society. It is an excellent romantic novel.
