Intellectuals in modern China are full of contradictions, hesitations, confusions, changes, repetitions and confusion. The power of ideas often leads to rapid changes in times. However, this also implies a historical paradox: behind various "radical changes" there is often "unchangedness" lurking. Those who are old-fashioned are not necessarily backward, and those who are new are not necessarily progressive. Thoughts drive history, and history filters thoughts. History is often unreasonable and willful. In many cases, it is not profound thoughts but superficial sensibility or some kind of fanaticism that drives history forward.
