About This Novel

The Bureau of Investigation and Statistics of the Military Commission of the Nationalist Government, referred to as the Military Commission, was established in January 1938. It is the most famous spy organization of Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang. Its predecessors were the Secret Investigation Team of the Military Commission (established in 1927), the Fuxing Society Secret Service (established in April 1932), and the Second Division of the Investigation and Statistics Bureau of the Military Commission (established in 1937). The main person in charge was Dai Li. At its peak, the military reunification had more than 100,000 paramilitary personnel of various types, including nearly 50,000 special agents. Its influence penetrated into the Kuomintang's army, police, party and government agencies, education, culture, transportation agencies, and even consulates abroad, specializing in secret activities such as surveillance, kidnapping, arrests, and assassinations. Throughout World War II, the military command was the largest, most efficient, and most advanced intelligence agency in telecommunications deciphering technology in the world.
