About This Novel
"Journey to the West" has a total of one hundred chapters, in which Tang Monk, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Seng are the main characters. The first to the twelfth chapters mainly talk about the birth of Sun Wukong, the cause of the turmoil in the Heavenly Palace, and the reason why Tang Monk obtained scriptures. Chapters 13 to 100 are the main body of the book, telling the story of Sun Wukong converting to Buddhism, and his three disciples protecting Monk Tang from going to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures. After going through ninety-nine and eighty-one difficulties, he finally achieved enlightenment. "Journey to the West" reflects the real social contradictions in a tortuous way through the form of myth, and expresses the people's wishes and requirements to punish evil and promote good.
