From the perspective of ethical narrative, this book focuses on the academic controversy over the "nothing to say" and "moral ambiguity" in Updike's novels, and deeply analyzes the characteristics and formation process of ethical narratives in Updike's novels. It pays special attention to the profound influence of thinkers such as Søren Kierkegaard and Karl Barth on his novel creation. It innovatively constructs three narrative dimensions: contextualized narrative, tragic narrative, and non-authoritative narrative, and combines it with modern narratology theory to deeply analyze the constituent elements and functional mechanisms of this deep narrative model, and then explore how Updike's novels artistically transform ethical intentions into the creative art of novel narrative.
