Drafts of Modern Chinese History
by Dai Yi
About This Novel
This book is divided into two volumes and is revised and expanded based on the course notes on modern Chinese history taught by Mr. Dai Yi in 1954. The first volume mainly narrates the historical events during the two Opium Wars and the Taiping Rebellion. It was first published in 1958. It is an early comprehensive, systematic and concise modern history textbook for colleges and universities after the founding of New China. The second volume mainly covers the Westernization Movement, the Sino-French War, the Sino-Japanese Sino-Japanese War, etc. After it was written, it was never released to the public due to various reasons. It was not published together with the first volume until 2008. This book has a detailed narrative, a comprehensive vision, thoughtful thinking, and subtle insights. The disciplinary system and research methods of modern Chinese history constructed in the book still have important theoretical value to this day.
