About This Novel
This is the story of two professional women in their 30s who finally break through the cocoons that symbolize emotional constraints and move towards a new life. The strong Mai who commits violence against her husband appears to have the upper hand, but in fact she blames herself for not being able to treat her husband as an equal due to the guilt of the abuse, and is deeply controlled by her husband who gains self-esteem by mentally dominating others without realizing it. However, Kiko's feelings for her boyfriend are also obsessed with a reciprocal relationship. She is trapped in the beautiful fantasy she spun and cannot extricate herself. In the game of mutual control with her boyfriend, all she gets in the end is disillusionment. At the end of the novel, after several struggles, the two women, Mai and Kiko, finally emerged from their cocoons together. The scene of them looking up at the falling snowflakes side by side is thought-provoking. What kind of relationship will the two women who can't stand their male partners form in the future? This open ending gives readers more room for imagination. The author raises unanswered questions such as "What is an equal relationship?" "What is legitimate equality?" "Is there equality between men and women?" "Can obsession with equality maintain the relationship between men and women?" And other unanswered questions, leaving it to the readers to find the answers themselves.
