About This Novel

During the American Civil War, five Union prisoners escaped from Richmond, the Confederate base camp, in a balloon. They encountered a storm on the way and were thrown to an uninhabited island in the South Pacific. Relying on their wisdom and extraordinary perseverance, these castaways overcame various difficulties. They not only made bows and arrows for hunting, but also pottery, glass, wind mills, telegraphs... And built the island into a prosperous paradise. Finally, several people nearly died in a volcanic eruption. It was not until the "Duncan" commanded by Captain Grant's son Robert passed by that they were rescued back home.
