Observation Record: Motherly Love and Death
by Wang Jinkang
About This Novel
This science fiction novel is based on the real Tangshan Earthquake and the virtual San Francisco Earthquake 100 years later, describing the human family structure and moral bottom line in different eras. In the Tangshan earthquake, a mother fed her son with blood when her milk was exhausted. In the end, the son lived and the mother died. In the San Francisco earthquake, a nominal mother (whose daughter was cloned from her oral epithelial cells, conceived through an artificial womb, and cared for by a robot nanny) initially tried every means for her daughter, but in the end she could not resist hunger. After thinking rationally, she ate her dead daughter's arm and was finally rescued. After she was rescued, "Human society in the 21st century accepted her calmly without any criticism from public opinion."
