Dockworker Eddie and his wife Beatrice lived a poor life. They raised Sister Bei's orphan Catherine. Catherine is almost an adult and Eddie still loves her. The strong and special relationship between the two makes Bay uneasy. Marco and Rodolfo, two of Bay's Italian relatives, smuggled themselves to the United States to work and stayed at Eddie's house. Rodolfo, with his lively personality, attracted Catherine's attention, but their relationship was strongly opposed by Eddie: Eddie didn't like Rodolfo and told Catherine that Rudolph was only pursuing her for his American identity. In order to prevent them from getting married, Eddie reported Marco and Rudolf's status as stowaways to the immigration bureau. Marco found Eddie in anger and planned to take revenge.
