Otherwise, the fire of my life will be extinguished, and I will really be trapped in the dark hell. I turned from a living person into a zombie. At this point, I have fulfilled my duties in worldly life and I will not feel ashamed. I am worthy of my wife and children. I have also fulfilled my obligations and responsibilities. Since I no longer love her, I should leave him. Now that my children have grown up, they should fly freely. My soul fell into the ice cave and I had to save it. If not, what do you tell me to do?
Strickland's unique, wild and unconstrained personality is rare in the world, but it is also an extreme and can only be lonely.
different outlook on life
In this novel, Maugham interprets the theme of the novel through the conflict between a talented artist and the bourgeois society he is trying to escape. "The moon" is a symbol of lofty ideals, while "sixpence" is a symbol of petty gains. Whether a person looks up at the moon and aims high, or looks down at the ground and pursues small profits, these are two completely different outlooks on life.
