The protagonist of "Daddy-Long-Legs", Joshua Albert (later renamed Judy), is a little girl who grew up in an orphanage. She is an excellent writer and was sponsored by an anonymous director of the orphanage to go to college. Judy had never met this director, but saw him by chance, so she called him "Daddy-Long-Legs."
