Therefore, they mistakenly thought that Khlestakov, who had an extraordinary appearance but actually resigned and returned home for gambling and wandering, was the imperial envoy. The letter was written by the young man to his friends in Petersburg. In the letter, he ridiculed the fools who mistakenly thought he was the imperial minister, and gave each official an embarrassing nickname. When the mayor and officials were speechless over this incident, the real imperial minister arrived. The curtain fell while everyone was stunned.
