About This Novel
Washington Irving (1783-1859) went to Europe three times in his life and spent 17 years in Britain, France, Germany, Spain and other countries. During this period, he visited places of interest, learned about the local customs, collected folklore, and accumulated rich creative materials. From 1819 onwards, he published many essays, essays and stories. In 1820, he compiled "Notes on His Experience" and published it in England, which caused a sensation and spread widely, making him the first American writer to gain international reputation. The artistic level of Owen's "Notes" exceeds any other of his works. With superb artistic skills, it combines romantic fantasy with realistic descriptions of daily life scenes, humor and lyricism. This is a collection of stories and essays, among which "The Author's Narrative", "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" have become famous works in world literature.
