About This Novel

In 1955, colleges and universities across the country underwent departmental restructuring, and my parents were transferred from Shandong Medical College (formerly known as Shandong Qilu University) to Sichuan Medical College (formerly called West China Union University, co-founded by five missionary societies of the Christian churches in Britain, the United States, and Canada-Methods, Quakers, Anglo-Americans, Baptists, and Episcopalians-and renamed Sichuan Medical College in 1953). My parents are related to Christian schools. My father graduated from the Chemistry Department of Shanghai Hujiang University (jointly run by the Southern Baptist Convention and the Northern Baptist Convention) in 1944. My mother graduated from the Shanghai Renji Hospital Advanced Nursing Vocational School (run by the Christian Church in London, England) in 1948. My parents went to work at Shandong Christian Republican University (also known as Shandong Qilu University) in 1950.
