About This Novel
"The Reckoning" is the masterpiece novella by Kertés Imre, winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize for Literature, and includes two chapters: "The Reckoning" and "The British Flag". "The Reckoning" is set in Hungary during the upheaval of Eastern Europe and is the last glimpse into the history of the Nazi concentration camps. A writer named B died at home. Literary editor Kescheru was convinced that B wrote a novel before he died. The novel tells the story of B's "inexpressible experience" by describing the process of Kescheru's search for the missing novel. "The British Flag" uses poetic words and stream-of-consciousness techniques to tell the story of the "youth" who came out of the concentration camp in the gloomy time of the 1950s.
