Fireside Poetry Talk: a Random Talk on Jin Xingyao's Ancient Poems
by Jin Xingyao
About This Novel
This work is a collection of interpretations of ancient poems written by the author in the 1980s. It was written in winter, and there was a heating stove in the room, hence the name. It has the feel of informal chatting by the fireside. The work contains more than 50 pieces by the author about poetry, starting from the Book of Songs and talking about Lin Xu, one of the Six Gentlemen of 1898 in the late Qing Dynasty. Jin Xingyao was good at studying the poetry of the Tang and Song Dynasties, so he was able to see things that others had never seen before and talk about things that others had never said. Therefore, the publisher Zhong Shuhe commented that he was "unique and innovative". When Jin Xingyao discusses poetry and people, he can enter the world of the ancients with a rational and sympathetic attitude. His words are plain and natural, washing away impetuosity and anger, and making them cool and self-generating.
