About This Novel

This book is a collection of short stories and short stories by Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk, winner of the 2018 Nobel Prize for Literature. The original Polish book is titled "The Sound of Drums". In 2002, it won Poland's highest literary award, the Nice Prize Readers' Choice Award. The collection of novels includes 19 works: a bored woman enters the detective novel she is reading; a man becomes obsessed with "the ugliest woman in the world" and follows her throughout his life; a British psychology professor is trapped in a foreign land for a week and encounters many dangers; a female dancer pays tribute to her long-lost father over and over again Writing letters that will never be mailed; foreigners entering a strange city and "changing" their identities inspired by the sound of drums on the street... Tokarczuk uses 19 elf-like stories to write about all kinds of loners in different senses, unfolding their unique adventures in the overlapping of the soul and the real world.
