Watching the Sunset over Victoria Harbor
by Teng Xiaolan
About This Novel
Guo Ni had a flash marriage with Ding Weian, an elite Hong Kong investment banker, and worked hard to integrate into Hong Kong life, learning Cantonese, making soup, and knitting scarves, but she found mysterious women's underwear in her husband's suitcase. Luo Yan made a surprise visit to Hong Kong on the pretext of "purchasing a dowry", but in fact she had a hidden agenda - she took the opportunity to get close to Hu Shaobin, Guo Ni's ambiguous partner in Shenzhen. As the plot progresses, the conflicts between the sisters escalate: Guo Ni's forbearance behind the mask of Hong Kong elegance, Luo Yan's inferiority under her flamboyant style, and the psychological game between the two that spans twenty years gradually comes to light. Clues such as Ding Weian's family secrets, the cultural collision between Hong Kong and Shanghai, and the truth about marriage are intertwined, and finally the identity dilemma of modern urbanites is revealed in the sunset over Victoria Harbor.

Feeling a little unfinished
The whole book has only 35,000 words, and the plot is compact and ups and downs - it feels like watching a literary film! Personally, I think the focus of the book is still on a person's journey of taking root in a strange city. The heroine married herself in Hong Kong, and her stepsister followed her father to the heroine's home in Shanghai. At the end, it was quite surprising to see the heroine's sister-in-law and her romantic partner become a couple.
