The book has a total of thirty-four volumes, including thirty-four Pinghua chapters, all of which tell stories that happened on the West Lake. This book strongly reflects the society of the late Ming Dynasty: political corruption, officials committing evil acts, and people living in dire straits. It also reflects some of the customs and habits of the time. "West Lake Episode 2 (1)" mainly tells the story of Qian Liu, who has been prone to ordinary people since birth and gradually became the king of Wuyue, Zhen Longyou was appreciated by Emperor Xiaozong for his talent, Zhao Xiong passed the imperial examination, Li Fengniang killed her husband Qishi due to jealousy, and Yao Bohua was filial.
