The Love Affair of Xinhai: the Life and Death Love of the Legendary Governor
by Wang Benjie
About This Novel
This book is a long historical novel in Zhang Hui style, focusing on the experience of legendary general Yin Changheng going north to Beijing from 1914 to 1916 to safeguard the republic, oppose dictatorship, and defend the achievements of the Revolution of 1911. During this period, the political situation of the Beiyang government was turbulent, with various factions fighting openly and secretly. Yuan Shikai called Yin Changheng to Beijing to report on his duties, but in fact he placed this brave general under house arrest in an attempt to induce him to support his claim to emperor. Yin Changheng firmly opposed dictatorship and struggled to deal with Yuan Shikai's power tactics. During this period, Yin Changheng met Liang Yulou, a brothel girl, and formed a soul-stirring life-and-death relationship, comparable to the love legend between Cai E and Xiao Fengxian at the same time.
