Aging, degradation, shame, disgust, sexual desire, politics, scandal, literature, rumors, voyeurism, "The Exiting Ghost" has multiple levels of interpretation. Ross's language is as sharp as a thorn, and there is a ironic humor in the coldness, and he has a tough guy temperament. The book's brutal honesty makes it an excellent conclusion to Nathan Zuckerman's series of literary adventures.
