About This Novel
Ngugi originally wrote in English, but later gave up Christianity, changed his English name, and began to write in the local Gikuyu language. Because he opposed the authoritarian regime, he fled to London in 1982 and later taught at American universities. Twenty-two years later, in August 2004, Ngugi returned to his hometown of Kenya. That month, the apartment where he lived was robbed, he was beaten severely, and his wife was raped. For this reason, he had no choice but to leave Kenya again and return to the United States. Afterwards, Ngugi wrote the novel "The Crow Wizard", which uses magical realism and exaggeration to allow the post-modern Jesus to turn himself into a crow wizard in an accident.
