About This Novel

This book is called the Paris version of "On the Road" and is Kerouac's later work. In a semi-autobiographical style, the novel tells the first-person story of the author's ten-day trip to Paris and Brittany to explore family history. From the unattractive French woman in the Montparnasse gangster bar to the strange French "noble" with the same name as the author, Kerouac was deeply fascinated by everyone and everything on the journey. He believed that he had gained the highest level of life experience in the eyes of the "Beat Generation": "epiphany." The whole book adheres to Kerouac's consistent writing style, using unconstrained associations and passionate writing to write out unique travel insights.
