At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the country was weak and the people were declining. There were foreign powers eyeing the country and warlords fighting internally. In extraordinary times, there must be extraordinary things and extraordinary people. It is true that times make heroes. It was in this turbulent historical torrent that Song Wending gradually transformed from a passionate young man who practiced martial arts for revenge to a mantis boxing master who revitalized the national martial arts and was revered as the "Mantis King". The novel does not trace back and examine the origin of Mantis Boxing, nor does it specifically examine real people and events, nor does it subdivide the Mantis sect. It aims to tell the changes of that era and the fate of the characters through the legendary story of a legendary figure.
