About This Novel
Criminal investigation captain Chen Shixu suffers from a rare cognitive impairment: he has a photographic memory of the details of the case, but is unable to form new long-term memories. Every day when he wakes up, he is a "new" self. He can only rely on notes on the wall, cold recordings and morning briefings from his partner Shen Yi to maintain the continuity of the investigation. His memory is like quicksand, and what he is chasing is a perfect killer who uses the twenty-four solar terms of the Chinese lunar calendar as ritual nodes and has been dormant for thirty-six years before emerging. Beginning with "The Beginning of Spring, Frozen Bones", a series of solar terms serial murders integrated with modern biotechnology, each scene is as exquisite as a morbid work of art. During the investigation, Chen Shixu discovered that all the methods were highly similar to a sealed Agricultural Research Institute accident on the first day of spring that year - and one of the victims of that accident was his mother whose appearance had long been forgotten. The murderer used a unique technique that has been lost for a long time; what the murderer predicted was every solar term in the future. Chen Shixu had to race against a ghost who knew the secret of time on a battlefield where his memory was cleared every day.
