There was a freshly prepared lunch on the table, with chicken meatball sauce soup in a blue and white striped bowl. This is Shimizu Anzu's favorite thing. Chicken meatballs with chopped green onions and mushroom stock are cooked together before miso is dissolved into the soup. Also placed in front of her were tuna made with okra and potato as ingredients, and Western-style spring rolls filled with brushed cheese and shrimp, neatly arranged on a white porcelain plate. The TV was tuned to the news channel. The mother across the dining table did not talk to Xing, but stared at the screen intently. Every month, there is only one Sunday in the middle of the month when Xing eats with her mother. On weekdays, she lives with her grandmother in this seaside town in Kamakura, while her mother only comes back once a month because she works as a planner at a radio station in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
