The novel is set in the turbulent sixteenth century as the background, focusing on the intricate and contradictory relationships between the old and new continents in the early years after the discovery of America. The novel is divided into three parts, each describing the anecdotal experiences of three European painters in their career, love and life during this period, showing a historical picture with ups and downs. The three of them not only faced a new era in which people generally yearned for the novel and mysterious New World of America, but at the same time they witnessed the destruction and plunder carried out by colonists on both sides of the Atlantic in the name of religion. The author of the novel uses extraordinary imagination and creativity, exquisite prose and poetic language to narrate the twists and turns, bizarre and sometimes horrifying storyline, which not only reflects the magic and greatness of the geographical discovery, but also exposes the despicability and ugliness of the colonists.
