In 1918, as the United States declared war on Germany, anti-German sentiment swept across the United States like a flu. In a small town in Nebraska in the western United States, the German immigrant Vogel family faced unprecedented hatred and prejudice, and an identity crisis quietly struck... Gerda is a daughter, a wife, and the mother of four children. She is trapped in a double war inside and outside the family: externally, she has to bear the cold eyes and hatred of others; internally, she suffers from the alienation of her parents because of her former rebellion.
