"Once Upon a Time in Saigon" won the 5th Chinese World Film and Novel Award. The novel is set in Saigon, Vietnam, and tells the story of a young girl, Xiaowan, who is a simple and well-behaved high school student with a faint rebellious mentality. Her mother and stepfather have been working hard to maintain the warmth of the reorganized family, but Xiaowan always feels that this is not the life she wants. After failing the college entrance examination, Xiaowan went to live alone with his uncle's family in Saigon, whom he had never met. Xiaowan, who has just arrived, lives with his mysterious foreign cousin Ruan Fuzhen. As they get along day and night, Xiaowan gradually learns about several of Fuzhen's emotional experiences...
