About This Novel
Eugene was born in a small town called Altmont. His mother, Eliza, drove him and his sisters to the streets to earn money when he was very young. When he was 8 years old, Eliza made the South City a boarding house, and Eugene stayed with her. Eugene's sister Helen has been staying at home with her father. Other children moved between the two homes. Eugene hates "Nando". At the age of 16, Eugene entered state college. By the end of his senior year, Eugene had become a big figure on campus. Later, the sudden death of his brother Ben put him in extreme pain. His father was seriously ill, and there were quarrels between the brothers and sisters over the inheritance. Because Eugene had gone to college, they deducted his share of the inheritance and forced him to sign. His mother promised to provide him with one year's tuition, and he left his hometown to go to Harvard University...

When an excellent work is not read, it is often not the fault of the author but of the readers.
An alcoholic father, an extremely stingy mother, brothers and sisters who are very different in age, no one really understands Eugene's inner world. His heart is sensitive and fragile, but he pretends to be strong. How can you not be strong without help from others? ! Time knows every step of the growth experience! A person's lifelong lesson is to get along with himself!
You can think of it as a novel, but to be precise, it is a beautiful prose poem! The long paragraphs of lyrical and scenic descriptions describe how a person's inner world is as turbulent as the rough sea! The genes of the original family have been integrated into Eugene's bone marrow, and he has wanted to break away as long as he can remember.
