About This Novel
The story takes place in Corsica, France. That's Napoleon's hometown. It happened before the 1820s, shortly after Napoleon's defeat. At that time bourgeois civilization was far from being able to cross the sea and conquer the island. The quaint folk customs, a little barbaric in the Middle Ages, are preserved there. Of course there are laws on the island. But the people often disregard the law and act according to their conscience and ancient traditions. One of the ancient traditions is "Hindata", which means revenge.
