About This Novel

The Russian literary legacy highly praised by Wang Xiaobo has been introduced in its entirety for the first time in China. The novel "The Fish King" is Astafiev's most personal masterpiece and a classic of contemporary Russian literature. The book is composed of thirteen "narrative short stories" with relatively independent contents, all centered on the relationship between man and nature. It depicts Siberia full of mysterious temptations in depth and detail, as well as the people living there, and their reflections on life. The desolate, bitter and cold natural environment is at the same time a place where nature shows its majesty, vastness and richness. Although human footprints are like claws in snow and mud, they still carry the dignity of endless life. These chapters show a unique style in terms of ideological content and artistic form, downplaying the plot, and describing the details delicately and vividly. They "integrate novels, novellas, lyrical essays, and moral discussions into one" (Wang Xiaobo). They reveal coherent content and images from different angles and methods, just like a string of pearls strung inadvertently, each one reflecting dazzling light with its own beauty.

Traveling around the world is scary for people of any age, and "I" decided to leave home and travel around the world when I was seventeen. I have to say that it is really courageous. If you dare to wander around alone when you are still underage, you will definitely suffer a lot.

Maybe no matter what "I" do, it is impossible to handle the relationship at home. After all, "I" came home from the orphanage. I came home after such a long delay. I am like an outsider. People at home will live with "me", but "I" will not have a heart-to-heart relationship with the people at home.

The Yenisei River described by the author at the beginning of the book is really beautiful. It makes people feel happy and want to go to the Yenisei River. The lights, the sound of waves lapping on the shore, the sound of wind, people chatting... Everything seems to be so peaceful and peaceful.
