Seven-year-old Camilo witnessed his parents being killed by the Japanese army. From then on, he, who was originally lively and cheerful, became sensitive and neurotic. After the outbreak of the Pacific War, expatriates living in China were deported to concentration camps by the Japanese army. Camilo's nanny "knelt down to care for the orphan" on the street, which moved Professor Sean of Yenching University.
