About This Novel
This is a letter from Diao Dou that appears in his novel "Testimony" ("Testimony" was published in an issue of "Harvest" at the end of the last century). The male protagonist wrote this letter early and told his divorced wife to have his daughter Diao Chan memorize it until she was familiar with it. When he was woken up in the middle of the night to go to jail, he asked his daughter to recite the letter over the phone. Diao Chan was about to wake up, so she instinctively carried this letter that she seemed to understand but didn't understand. In my opinion, it is the best contemporary Chinese novel so far. In terms of narrative structure, it is similar to my favorite Korean movie "Peppermint Candy". It also hides the main plot, and then uses detailed hints to allow readers to guess and construct the untelling story. In addition, the protagonist's attitude towards life and the insights revealed inadvertently are both moving. It is a novel that can be read over and over again with endless aftertaste.
