About This Novel
This book selects seven of Faulkner's most representative short stories, telling the story of the great impact and transformation that the traditional culture of the South and the values of the North experienced after the outbreak of the American Civil War. It uses strange and twisted language to describe the conflict between the declining aristocracy and the common people in this special environment. Most of Faulkner's novels and short stories take place in Yoknapatawpha County, known as the "Yoknapatawpha Line". Its main context is the story of several generations of families belonging to different social classes in Yoknapatawpha County, from 1800 until after World War II. There are more than 600 named characters in the lineage that appear alternately in various novels and short stories.
