About This Novel
Works by Peter Handke, winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize for Literature. "On Tiredness" contains five unique narrative works created by Handke from the late 1980s to 2013. These five "novels" deconstruct traditional narrative forms further than all Handke's previous works, and can almost be said to have created a new style of writing. No matter how the narrative form changes, Handke always focuses on the relationship between self and the world. Tiredness in "On Tiredness" is an important way of perceiving the world; "On the Jukebox" recalls and summons the passing time; the "quiet place" mentioned in "On the Quiet Place" turns out to be the toilet. The author's unique expression style completely surpasses people's habits. Taking things as commonplace and self-evident; "On the Mushroom Maniac" creates a fictional character who is obsessed with mushrooms. From curiosity, pursuit, obsession, and madness, to gradually calmness, detachment, and relief, Handke used this to review and reflect on his own life.
