About This Novel
"Joints" is a collection of seven representative novellas by young writer Sun Pin. Seven stories, seven sad and lonely battles in life. A single mother who lost her virginity due to credulity when she was young and is determined to inject aristocratic air into her daughter; a poor college student who is obsessed with Japanese actresses; an orphan who was abandoned at birth and has gone through nine journeys without finding a place in the world; a pair of brothers and sisters in the mining area whose father is missing and rely on the meager income of their mother's canteen to survive; a divorced thirty-year-old woman, and the man she despises and pities. A widowed mother; a country girl who suddenly had murderous intentions in order to prevent her father from being exploited by her gambling brother... In increasingly deserted villages, declining industrial towns, and vast unfamiliar cities, the men and women in these stories bear the chill of their own fates, but exhaust all their strength and emotions to cover up, get rid of, and heal the hidden diseases and injuries in their native lives.
