About This Novel

As a representative poet of "non-nonism", He Xiaozhu's novel creation over the past twenty years has continued the pioneering spirit. "Zoo" is a collection of experimental novels. The whole book consists of four novellas. The four novels are all named after enclosed spaces - "Zoo", "Rehearsal Ground", "Nightclub" and "Cinema". A closed space represents a kind of dilemma. Around these four different closed spaces, He Xiaozhu uses the writing style of Kafka-style expressionist literature to describe various indescribable dilemmas in life - the dilemma of desire and the dilemma of spirit. As the author said in his preface, "the four novels, seemingly unrelated to each other, are actually the same thing, that is, four ways of writing a theme."
