About This Novel
"Old Things in the South of the City" is a collection of autobiographical novels written by female writer Lin Haiyin based on her life between the ages of seven and thirteen. It depicts the childhood memories of the protagonist Xiao Yingzi in the south of Beijing in the 1920s in a simple and innocent style. It shows us the old Beijing in the eyes of a child and the life of Beijingers in the early 20th century. Seeing the camel team approaching under the winter sun, and hearing the slow and melodious ringing of bells, childhood returned to the author's mind. Summer passed, autumn passed, winter came again, camel caravan came again, but childhood is gone and never returned. Chunshu Hutong, Xinliangzi Hutong, Hufang Hutong and Liangjiayuan where Xiaoyingzi lived are all beautiful scenery in the south of the city. All kinds of little characters kept appearing in front of Xiao Yingzi. Coupled with Lin Haiyin's keen writer's touch, he had different experiences and feelings about childhood life and characters, so he wrote them down, so that the actual childhood would pass and the spiritual childhood would last forever.
