About This Novel
Tian Er's classic Xiangxi novella collection, Yi Yang Qianxi's favorite novelist, the youngest winner of the Lu Xun Literature Award in history. Tian Er set out from western Hunan and entered a broader realm of novels. The subtle and precise description of the homeland, era, all spirits, and human nature revives mankind's ancient awe of the natural earth. The novel collection "The Ring Spirit" contains three novellas written by Tian Er based on the old era of western Hunan. "Breaking the Moon" tells the story of a beggar named Gou Xiao who accidentally set a world record for survival in a desperate situation during a mining accident. However, a visit from an outside reporter spread the local legend that the dog can eat people, and Gou Xiao fell into deeper desperation. "Records of People" tells the story of an old bandit, Brother Eleven, who cut off his distal fingers and acted as a porter, but was impersonated while picking up his legs. After rebelling and subduing the bandits, Brother Eleven looked back on his early experiences, especially the death of the bandit leader Han Zhuozi. He accidentally exposed his identity and had no choice but to betray his banditry and murder. "The Ring Spirit" tells the story of a long-term leopard infestation in a certain place in western Hunan. After the hunters took action to eliminate the leopard problem, someone hid the leopard cub privately and named it the Ring Spirit with the intention of domesticating it. However, this method went against the nature of the creature and only had the opposite consequences.
