About This Novel
The novel tells the ten-year life of two best friends in girlhood from the age of 23 to 33, and focuses on the conflict between ideals, love and reality of post-1985 women in the current era. Yuan Xue, a smart and sensitive orphan who works part-time at the Calligraphy Association, and Wang Xinchun, a second-generation official who is full of nymphomaniacs. The two have very different origins, but they face the same emotional entanglement. Yuan Xue's artistic live-in boyfriend quit his job and was so poor that he almost had no food to eat; Wang Xinchun got married under the arrangement of the director's father and the doctor's mother and took the civil service examination. However, the marriage between Wang Xinchun and her husband Xu Lidong was a joke: except for the right conditions, nothing else was suitable. By chance, the two girls who were frustrated by reality regained their old friendship...
