About This Novel

The town in the story was called Caoliuyingzi in the early years of the Republic of China. When the Sino-Qing Railway was built, there were only some collapsed adobe houses left there. The "old uncle" (referring to the coolie) who built the railway once lived there. After the railway opened to traffic, there was a station in that place, a Ding Yu-shaped Russian-style house with yellow walls and a dark green iron roof. The webmaster is a black-haired man from the Mediterranean named Yura. There was also a tall White Russian lady who lived with him, with brown hair and a lot of freckles on her face. That small station is also called Eight Stations. It was deserted at first, with only a cargo yard and some seasonal porters. When Zhang Zongchang was guarding Suifenhe, he instituted a smoking ban in order to raise military pay, and started border trade, and Cao Liuyingzi also prospered. There are more people growing tobacco, gold mining, and doing various businesses.
