About This Novel
Ji Hongzhen wrote many good people in this novel, such as Yu Si's parents, Yu Si's neighbor Li Jialun and his girlfriend Chu Bing. She also wrote about many good children, such as Xiao Dan, who knew how to play the piano but died young, Roy Luo, who was pretty and ill-fated, and Yu Si's brother Yu Sheng. She also wrote about some bad children and some bad people; but these bad people are pitiful and sympathetic in Ji Hongzhen's writings; although those bad children have done some bad things, they are all somewhat cute. There are too many novels with the "Cultural Revolution" as the background. The contribution of Ji Hongzhen's novel is to implement tolerance, sympathy and understanding of people into every word of the novel. Perhaps, this was the original appearance of human nature in that period.
