Tree People
About This Novel
"Tree People" is a novel published by Anne Prue, winner of the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize for Literature, ten years after she broke into the literary world. The story begins in the seventeenth century. Two uneducated young men, Serge and Decay, left France during the era of great changes and came to the primeval forests of Canada, hoping to change their destiny and open up a future. They migrated, they fled, they conquered the ancient forest that blocked the sky and the sun, and they were conquered by the forest. In the following three hundred years of history, Serge, Decay and their descendants experienced joys and sorrows on this continent, and composed a legendary song of fighting against fate.
