About This Novel
After a 50cm-thick snowstorm in mid-February, Toronto's strong winter has finally lost its momentum and the weather has slowly become milder. One morning in early March, I stood at the window of my study and looked at the back garden. I noticed that the thick snow on the roof of my neighbor's house had melted, leaving only a thin layer. The originally soft snow now showed ice crystals, and gurgling snowmelt water began to flow from the bottom. Those branches are already turning green, and their buds have quietly sprouted even in the harsh winter. In a month or so, the ice and snow will disappear, tulips and daffodils will be the first to bloom, and then apple blossoms, elderflowers, Japanese cherry blossoms will bloom quietly, and the streets in our area will be surrounded by clusters of flowers vying to appear first. It has been more than ten years since I settled in Canada.
