About This Novel

This is the first full-length novel to use a train station to reflect the vicissitudes of the city. Dazhimen Station was the southern terminus of the Beijing-Hankou Railway. As the leading modern station in Asia at that time, after it was completed and opened to traffic, it changed the pattern of Hankou being dominated by water transportation. The situation changed every year. "It is even more lush than Beijing and Shanghai." It has since been known as the "Chicago of the East". The vicissitudes of the railway station over the past century have not only condensed the history of China's railways, but also the history of the city of Wuhan. This work is based on the period from the early days of Dazhimen Station to the occupation by Japanese invaders. The emotional entanglement between the three men Xie Chengyuan, Xu Yihong, Liu Heisheng and the heroine Song Zhuxi is the main line of the whole story. The storyline revolves around their respective family fates, their growth and setbacks, friendship and betrayal, pain and joy. In the end, they come together to avoid personal grievances and complete an act of revenge.
